I was first exposed to chemistry while studying it as a required course in
junior-high school. As I learned about science, I came to realize that the
study of chemistry consists of much more than mere knowledge;
Since my early childhood, I have been exposed to Quantitative method.
It derives from that my teachers in Junior & Senior high school were
mathematician, who influenced me naturally while in responsibility in my
class. I always remember my teachers helped me in applying of logical
method in mathematics to life style more than digital meaning and I had a
chronical experience of having good grades in school in mathematics contest

My interest in engineering dates back to my elementary school. Having had
a series of interest in making and assembling miniature toys and fixing
household appliances, I wanted to be excellent engineer. At the same time,
my parents not only encouraged me to sharpen up my curiosity in mechanical
things, but father, particularly, showed me an exciting world of engineering.
My father is a recoginzed civil engineer.

My life has been closely conneted with the atmosphere and I always enjoy
a variety of changes of weather whatever they are gentle or furious.
My contact with the atmosphere was very special. At nine years old.
Interestingly, it was shiny in my uppersky while raining far beyond the
Mountain. Far away, the dark clouds seemed to move slowly, but later I had
to run as fast as possible to avoid getting wet. After all, I got all wet
and that clouds passed me in a moment. It is still mysterious that such
a small and handy clouds could have swiftly run away. What happened to me
at that moment has never left me since and I came to have a habit to look
at the sky. I feel comfortable when I think, see and touch atmosphere, my
lovely friend 'atmosphere'.

This realization intrigued and inspired me to pursue the systematic study
of chemistry at University. During my freshman year, and throughout my coll
ege career, I found I had a great enthusiasm for the study of chemistry.
I diligently pursued my class assignments and avidly read many relevant
books and periodicals. Although I often pursued my interests beyond the
required work, I nevertheless found that I wanted a knowledge of chemistry
sufficient to allow me to cope with more than just theoretical problems.
For this reason, I am presently seeking to continue my studies at the
graduate level.
My scholastic background in chemistry, which consists of theoretical,
experimental and advanced courses, has provided me with a solid basis upon
which to continue my studies. Morever, in addition to the basic undergrad-
-uate chemistry course (i.e. physical, organic, analytical, quantum
chemistry, and biochemistry, etc), I expanded my background by attending
extracurricular research presented by the faculty of our Department.
I've also interested in a variety of chances to experience public affairs
which give service to citizen, thanks to growing up under typical public
officials family. That made me major in public adminitration where I could
study in a variety of mechanism in organization & decision-making theory,
personnel system, financial system related to decision-making in public
organization.
First, the fact public organization has somewhat different situation with
corporation was interesting to me, but as time goes by to study deeply,
it was far more fascinating to me that if not understanding properly in
current and characters in financial system, public organization had hard
time in maximizing the efficiency and productivity, and only when
financial structure of organization and accurate Accounting-auditing run
properly, it could have good influence in final decision-making.
This interest let me have 'A' in all classes of Planning and Finance,
Financial administration whose main topic was accounting and control.

To fulfil my childhood dream of being an engineer, I managed to enter one
of the toughest institution known as Seoul National University.
Less than 1% of high school gradute can enter the SNU. At the universtity,
I majored Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, and I will be graduating
from there this comming February. As my academic record indicates, I feel
that I have successfully acquired a basic foundation of engineering
discipline. In addition, I believe I have solidified a breadth of
engineering discipline by studying other subjects such as 'manufacturing
process', 'data structure', 'database' and a number of subjects
in humanities.

During my junior years, I strategically put my efforts to understand the
basis of dynamics, as well as learning a variety of applications in
computer programings. Then among many major courses, I studiously
participated in the courses of dynamic meteorlogy, weather analysis,
mesoscale meteorology, chemistry of atmosphere, and general circulation
of atmosphere. But in case of the theory of 'predictability limit'
at the class of dynamic meteorology, I learned to accept the limitations
of atmospheric science.
In taking that course, however, I really liked to forecast by using weather
data and with an analysis of atmosphere. Research topic for tornadoes was
particulary attractive for me and I even struck with admiration to get to
know the National Severe Storm Laboratory(NSSL)
while preparing a term paper for mesometeorology, I often dream of working
at the NSSL as a researcher.
With passion and love for atmospheric science, I made up mind to keep on
studying this for the rest of my life, especially mesoscale meteorlogy.
In my senior year, professor Noh who emphasized the importance of computer
modeling in meteorology, severly pushed me to do programing by giving
assignments to complete more than thirty programs. I had to live with my
computer throughout the whole semester to finish all those programs.
Finally, I got 'A' grade in that course
(the numerical analysis of atmosphere) and gained confidence of programing.

¨ç During my junior year I joined a lab-rotation program entitled " The study
of the model complexes of Ni(II) - containing coenzyme F430" Staying in the
laboratory, I was deeply involved in biominetic corphin macrocyclic ligand
synthesis and complexation. Lab works were pretty much focused on the
multinuclear multidimensional NMR data acquisition, processing, data
analysis and NMR-based structure determination. Academic achievement was
good, so I was able to present results in the Campus Academic Conference
held at the University. I gained further research experience through my
undergraduate thesis work. Early in my senior year, I began work on "The
model complexes of superoxide dismutase(SOD)" Under the supervision of my
faculty advisor of Inorganic Chemistry division.
This research consisted of literature search, synthesis of metal complexes,
structural analysis using X-ray crystallography, sand examinations of
spectroscopic and electrochemical properties. At eh 76th Korean Chemical
Society Annual Convention held on October, 19945, I formally reported the
progress of this work.

Most of all, academical opportunity of changing my major to business

He, after studying in U.C Berkeley(Ph, D) was one of few experts

public administration in KOREA UNIV in South Korea.
Through expert theories and cases-analysis in his class, I could have faith
in that we need more experts who can evaluate the auditing about business
area based on in public or private organization with the stream of
international accounting criteria in 21th century.
Having part-time Job in KPC(Korea Productivity Corporation), after
graduating, made me feel how important role the auditing to understand the
efficiency of organization do and how effective expert skill is in changing
financial structure to the better one in person, so frequently put a lot of
importance on financial statements and auditing through accounting-related
materials.

¨é During my undergraduate, I explored extra curriar activities pertinent to
engineering. From freshman year, I participated in Seoul National
University Computing Club and promote club activity by being in charge
of having public relation responsibility. Another significant action is
that I managed to publish'Mathematica'in my junior year. With two other
club mate, we recognized the need of software package known as
'Mathematica'in Korea engineering climate. With this recognitioin,
we translated usage instruction and simplified user interface and
re edited for Korean audiences. Still another signicant activity is
that of constructing and installing database for the ...Co. Ltd..
It is being used as their backbone operation.

In addition, I have a great interest and admiration for the research field
of professor Roman S.Czernuszewicz.
I have been told that the goal of a scientific education is to prepare the
student to conduct research independently. I seek to attain that goal.
Upon receiving my Doctor of Philosophy, my intention is to return to my
country and apply my knowledge through teaching and researching chemisry at
a college. I will also seek to pursue my studies with the aim of applying
my knowledge toward the solution of specific problems found in the field of
chemistry. It is my greatest hope that my participation in such solutions
will contribute in some way to eh advancement of my country.
